Should you wear a deodorant without fragrance?

Did you know, why the cosmetics industry has to list all their ingredients in very detail but can use these general terms when it comes to fragrance? Scents are protected under trade law!

That’s why it is impossible to know what substances are concealed behind the term “fragrance” or “perfume”. It could be phthalates, or it could be even all-natural substances that might cause allergies or skin irritation.

However, Phthalates are the more dangerous substances. These compounds help deodorants stick to your skin. Phthalates are typically present in any product with a fragrance that lingers after it’s been used or applied.

But there is a problem with these chemicals: Phthalates appear to disrupt the way the human body produces and uses the hormone testosterone. Therefore the European Chemicals Agency classifies DEHP and DBP as reproductive toxicants. Research in adult human males has found that sperm quality and male infertility are associated with levels of DEHP and DBP in the blood.  The European commission has determined that there is sufficient evidence that the phthalates DBP and DEHP lead to endocrine disruption in living organism and have therefore been banned for the use in cosmetics. What are the key advantages of a no scent deodorant?

The advantage of using a fragrance free deodorant is that it may be less irritating to the skin and more suitable for people who are sensitive to fragrances or perfumes.

No-scent deodorants do not have a strong smell that could potentially interfere with your own personal scent or the scent of perfume or cologne you may be wearing. In addition, some people prefer a no-scent deodorant because they do not want to have a strong or overpowering smell on their body.
